Liberal Democrats urge residents to support campaign to protect Roman Gate park

Leighton Linslade South Councillors Shaun Roberts, Chris Leaman and Emma Holland-Lindsay are backing a campaign by local residents to protect their local park from development.

The Roman Gate Action Group of local residents has launched a petition calling for the open space and play area on the Roman Gate estate in Leighton Buzzard to be formally ‘adopted’ by Central Beds Council.

The land is an important green space for residents of the estate to enjoy for exercise, dog walking and for children to play.

Yet years on from residents moving into their homes, the park has still not been adopted leaving it vulnerable to development.

Councillor Chris Leaman said:

“This green space is really important for the health and wellbeing of the community on Roman Gate. Yet without being properly adopted by the Council it remains vulnerable to greedy developers who want to build on it.

“Residents have endured years of worry about whether this vital haven will be protected and so it is high time Central Beds acted and got this moving to safeguard this park for the future.”
